Black 2023 Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle Hybrid near green hillsChrysler has issued a recall alert for about 67,000 Pacifica Hybrid minivans from model years 2017-2023 because a wiring problem in their transmissions can cause their engines to shut down suddenly.

The company doesn’t have a solution ready to prevent the wiring from short-circuiting. For now, dealers will update software to provide warnings, giving drivers “sufficient drive time to exit traffic,” Chrysler says. Engineers are working on a long-term fix that will prevent the problem from occurring in the first place.

Chrysler is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the defect, but the company has seen at least 242 warranty claims over it. So, Chrysler’s announcement includes a reminder that the company “has a longstanding policy and practice of reimbursing owners who have incurred the cost of repairing a problem that subsequently becomes the subject of a field action.”

If customers have already paid for repairs that may be related to the problem, Chrysler will request proof of payment but may be able to reimburse the cost. Owners can contact the automaker’s customer service at 800-853-1403.

Recalls are common, and the repairs they require are always free. Manufacturers attempt to contact every owner, but they don’t always reach them all with the news. Find out if your car has ever been recalled at our recall center.
