Ram has issued a recall alert for over 248,000 Ram pickups. The affected models include 2020-2023 Ram 2500 and 2020-2022 Ram 3500 HD trucks equipped with a 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engine because they may be at risk of fire. Ram has asked owners to park their trucks outside and away from other vehicles until dealers can address the problem.
In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ram explains that heat can build up inside the transmission and cause fluid to leak from the dipstick tube.
Flammable transmission fluid can ignite when it comes into contact with hot engine parts. Ram is aware of 16 warranty claims and one minor injury related to the issue. The company has received reports of fires in parked trucks and running trucks.
The company says it is still working on a remedy for the problem. It expects to notify owners of a repair plan in late December. When the repair is available, it will be free, as with all recalls.
